Newly appointed head football coach of North Carolina, Bill Belichick, has made his debut on X (formerly Twitter), and the 72-year-old promptly shared his first message.

“‘Beat Dook’ my first words as a boy are my first words on X! Go Heels,” proclaimed the former head coach of the New England Patriots.

For those who may not know, Belichick is following in the footsteps of his father, Steve Belichick, who was an assistant coach at Chapel Hill from 1953 to 1955, during Bill’s formative years.

With his entrance into social media, there are likely positive implications for North Carolina’s recruiting efforts, as the experienced NFL coach can now engage with a younger demographic.

This Monday marked the start of the recruiting period when college coaches are permitted to visit high schools, and Belichick took full advantage of this opportunity.

One of the prospects he encountered was Zavion Griffin-Hayes, who is nationally ranked as the 12th best edge rusher (No. 179 overall).

“He was telling me things that coaches have never mentioned before,” Griffin-Hayes remarked about his discussion with the legendary coach. “He pointed out elements of my game and offered insights on the NFL and what the program could achieve.”

In his appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Belichick shared his experiences in recruiting, stating, “We’re also officially on Twitter, you can follow me there.”

“Welcome to X, pal,” McAfee replied.

Belichick was also asked about the New England Patriots’ choice to let go of former player Jerod Mayo after a lackluster 4-13 season.

“Regarding the Patriots’ situation, I don’t have too much to say. The people making decisions there are Robert Kraft, Jonathan Kraft, and Robyn Glaser,” Belichick mentioned.

Many are keen to see if the eight-time Super Bowl-winning coach (six with the Patriots and twice as defensive coordinator with the Giants) can translate his professional success to the college arena.

Notably, Belichick stands as the second most successful coach in NFL history, boasting a record of 333 wins and 178 losses.
