Charles Woodson represents the essence of Michigan, making it fitting that his venture, [Woodson Whiskey](https://woodsonwhiskey.com), has become the university’s first official spirit sponsor. The 1997 Heisman Trophy winner expressed that this partnership enhances his pride in being an alumnus.
In a [news release](https://woodsonwhiskey.com/blogs/news/charles-woodson-woodson-whiskey-become-university-of-michigan-s-first-spirit-sponsor), Woodson reminisced about the mantra he lived by during his college days: “Those who stay will be champions.” He shared that until now, he hadn’t fully understood the meaning of this upon leaving, adding, “Those who come back will be champions once again.”
He has carried this principle into the creation and management of Woodson Whiskey, which he founded in 2021. Beyond sponsoring his alma mater, the brand also collaborates with the NFL team where he excelled, the Las Vegas Raiders. Additionally, Woodson oversees a wine line within his portfolio.
Upon launching his whiskey, Michigan was the first to allow distribution. He told [Grand Rapids Magazine](https://www.grmag.com/food-drink/former-michigan-football-player-charles-woodson-launches-whiskey-brand/) that the state had “always supported me in everything I have done,” making it the perfect place to start.
“The fans know that I don’t just put my name on any product, so I’m excited to return to Michigan and present my latest creation,” he mentioned to the publication.
The spirit will soon be available at the Big House, coinciding with a game where the No. 10 ranked team faces No. 3 Texas. Woodson is expected to be in attendance, as stated in Woodson Whiskey’s news release.
Woodson Whiskey’s product lineup reflects his roots. The offerings include a 65th Anniversary Limited Edition Raiders Commemorative Bottle featuring his likeness, alongside a Team 144 Michigan bottle and a Blue and Maize signature series. There’s also a Green and Gold series honoring the Green Bay Packers and a White & Silver series dedicated to the Las Vegas Raiders, celebrating his NFL connections.
Woodson remains the only defensive player to win a Heisman Trophy. He had a remarkable career in the NFL as a nine-time Pro Bowler and a four-time All-Pro First-Team selection after being drafted No. 4 overall in the 1998 Draft. He has been honored in both the college and professional football Hall of Fame.
