With less than two weeks to go until the NFL season begins, the Dallas Cowboys’ roster will undoubtedly feature 25-year-old wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. After a summer of contract negotiations marked by tension, both sides have finally reached an agreement.

In essence, Cowboys fans can breathe easier, as it was reported on Monday afternoon that the three-time Pro Bowler has signed a four-year contract extension worth up to $136 million.

Since being selected in the first round of the 2020 Draft, Lamb has been seen as a key player for the franchise. Throughout his four years in the league, he has participated in every game and has established himself as one of the top players at his position.

Looking back at his performance in the 2023 season, Lamb led the league with 135 receptions, finished second in total receiving yards with 1,749, and ranked third in touchdowns with 12.

This new deal elevates Lamb to the position of the second highest-paid non-quarterback player, following Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who signed a four-year contract worth $140 million earlier this offseason.

However, Lamb faces some challenges ahead, as he missed all training camp sessions during contract negotiations.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has publicly expressed his frustration this summer regarding Lamb’s push for a new deal, which included threats to sit out, despite being under contract.

“I want fans to understand that most of the time, these are existing contracts you have in place,” Jones said. “You should be able to work within those terms, but the NFL landscape has changed, with other teams facing similar contract discussions even when time remains.”

In conclusion, now that an agreement is secured, financial discussions can be put to rest, allowing the team to concentrate on their performance as the season kicks off on September 8 at 4:25 pm ET, against the Cleveland Browns in Week 1.

“Winning — I’m excited to win and to be out there with my teammates, making another push for this,” Lamb stated after the announcement. “Yes, I will be in Dallas!”
