A few weeks back, Deebo Samuel logged just four snaps before experiencing severe breathing difficulties, prompting the need for oxygen support. The situation escalated swiftly when medical personnel identified fluid accumulation in his lungs, leading to an urgent hospitalization. Samuel later shared how frightening this ordeal turned out to be.
In a captivating installment of Cleat and Convos, Deebo recounted his battle with pneumonia, labeling it a deeply unsettling time. He recalled first feeling unwell in the morning, experiencing fatigue and a lack of energy, which he initially attributed to skipping breakfast.
Despite receiving an IV and undergoing breathing treatments, his condition did not improve, and he felt depleted as the game began. The San Francisco 49ers found themselves up against the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7.
Deebo revealed that he struggled to breathe, with each inhalation becoming more difficult.
> “Yeah, that was no joke. It felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest. I called my IV lady over and got an IV. I arrived at the stadium and still didn’t have any energy. I thought maybe I just needed some sugar or something. We tried everything. I attempted to warm up before the game, and I felt like I was literally on my last breath.”
The star wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers opted for an additional IV, hoping to push through the game despite his struggles. Unfortunately, this choice backfired as his condition deteriorated, necessitating a hospital stay of two days.
Fortunately, Deebo Samuel bounced back quickly within a week, delivering an outstanding performance against the Cowboys, as he often does. Presently, he is dealing with rib and oblique strains, having participated in limited practice on Wednesday. The 49ers are scheduled to face the Buccaneers on Sunday, making his health pivotal given the presence of three other wide receivers.
