Deion Sanders, head coach of Colorado’s football team, has recently been at the center of speculation regarding a possible transition to an NFL head coaching position.
At this point, these rumors remain unsubstantiated. Coach Prime shared his stance on his future during a media briefing on Tuesday.
“I’m happy where I am, man,” Sanders expressed to reporters. “I’ve got a kickstand down. You know what a kickstand is?… That means I’m resting. I’m good, I’m happy, I’m excited. I’m enthusiastic about where I am. I truly love it here.”
The NFL legend also pointed out that broaching this topic in front of his athletic director, Rick George, was inappropriate.
“You’re going to talk like that with my AD in here; that’s so disrespectful,” Sanders remarked. “You’re going to discuss me potentially leaving with my AD present?”
Many fans speculate that Sanders, given his history with the Cowboys, could be an ideal candidate for their head coaching position.
Sanders’ former teammate, Michael Irvin, believes that he would eagerly accept the Cowboys job, particularly if they were to draft Sanders’ son, Shedeur.
Michael Irvin stated, “100% Deion Sanders would accept the Cowboys job if they draft Shedeur Sanders. Good sources have told me that. Great sources have confirmed it.”
With Shedeur planning to enter the 2025 NFL Draft, the prospect of a move takes on additional significance.
Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, who has worked with Sanders in the past at Jackson State, hesitated to comment on the possibility of Sanders becoming a head coach in the NFL. However, he mentioned they communicate on a weekly basis, adding, “I know he’s told me multiple times that he’s really happy at Colorado.”
Since taking the helm at Colorado, Coach Prime has significantly shifted the program’s fortunes, transforming a team that recorded a 2-11 season in 2022 into one with an impressive 8-2 record this year.
Currently, the Buffaloes lead the Big 12 and hold the No. 16 ranking nationally, with upcoming games scheduled against Kansas on November 23 and Oklahoma State on November 29.
Prior to Sanders’ arrival in Boulder, the Buffaloes managed only one win during the entire 2022 season. In less than two years under Coach Prime’s guidance, Colorado has achieved an 8-2 record and is poised for postseason contention, demonstrating an extraordinary turnaround.
