Travis Hunter, who excels as both an offensive and defensive player for Colorado, has publicly made his case for the Heisman Trophy this season.

In his recent appearance on Outta Pocket With RGIII, Hunter detailed why he believes he is a strong candidate for the prestigious award, drawing comparisons between his contributions and those of the current frontrunner, Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty.

“We haven’t seen a player who excels on both sides of the ball, and I’m going to keep saying that,” remarked the 21-year-old defensive back/wide receiver.

“[Jeanty] has, I believe, 95 carries for 1,000 yards. If I had 95 catches, how many yards do you think I’d rack up? If I had 95 targets on defense, what do you think I’d produce? If I had 95 receptions on offense, how much do you think I’d end up with?”

Hunter continued, “I’m just pointing out that he’s had double the chances on offense compared to me, yet I still manage to generate impressive defensive statistics… that’s pretty wild… and we’re only in Week 6, so I’m not even going to debate it.”

Notably, Hunter’s claims are backed by his active involvement, accumulating a total of 322 snaps on offense and 341 on defense over six games this season.

To further illustrate his versatility, Hunter currently ranks as the leader in the Big 12 conference for receiving, with 49 receptions, 587 yards, and six touchdowns. As a cornerback, he has also recorded 16 tackles, two interceptions, and a key game-winning forced fumble during overtime against Baylor.

On the other hand, Jeanty presents a compelling case himself, as the running back position in college football has not seen such clear dominance since icons like Reggie Bush or Barry Sanders.

In six games, Jeanty has delivered remarkable statistics, amassing 1,248 yards on 126 carries, complemented by 18 total touchdowns.

As the season unfolds, both athletes are highly deserving of the Heisman, and strong arguments can be made for either player.

It’s also important to mention that Hunter and Jeanty could face competition from quarterbacks with Heisman potential, including Dillon Gabriel from Oregon, Cam Ward from Miami, and Jalen Milroe from Alabama.
