CLEVELAND (AP) — Former NFL star and Ohio native Charles Woodson has officially joined the Cleveland Browns as a limited partner, the organization announced on Tuesday.
The non-controlling minority stake was sanctioned during the league’s spring meetings held in Eagan, Minnesota. Majority ownership resides with Jimmy and Dee Haslam.
“Charles has made an extraordinary impact on the field, cementing his status as one of the finest collegiate and NFL players in history, and his continuous contributions off the field and his entrepreneurial drive illustrate how well he aligns with our organization,” the Haslams stated.
Woodson captured the 1997 Heisman Trophy while at Michigan, enjoyed an 18-year NFL career with the Raiders and Packers, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Currently, he serves as an NFL analyst for Fox Sports and resides in Orlando, Florida, where he assists his son’s high school football team. He is also involved in the wine and spirits sector.
Having grown up in Fremont, Ohio, Woodson expressed that while playing in the NFL was a lifelong dream, becoming part of an ownership team was beyond his expectations.
“In the past year, I’ve had a great time getting to know the Browns’ leadership team and I’m thrilled about the chance to contribute to the team’s promising future and support the organization and the NFL as a whole,” he shared.
