Denver Summit and Washington Spirit Battle to a 0-0 Draw in Front of Record 63,004 Fans

The Denver Summit matched up against the Washington Spirit in a scoreless draw on Saturday, attracting a record crowd of 63,004 fans at Empower Field, home of the NFL’s Denver Broncos.

Meanwhile, in other league action, the Utah Royals edged past the Boston Legacy with a 2-1 victory, while the Portland Thorns secured a solid 2-0 win against the Kansas City Current.

This impressive turnout at the Summit’s game surpassed the previous record of 40,091, set during a Bay FC match at Oracle Park in San Francisco last season.

Goalkeepers Abby Smith for the Summit and Sandy MacIver for the Spirit showcased their skills with two crucial saves each, keeping their nets clean. This marked Smith’s second consecutive shutout.

As for the Spirit, they remain in search of their first win this season, standing at 0-1-3.

Moultrie nets a penalty kick; Thorns conquer the Current

Olivia Moultrie converted a penalty kick in the 53rd minute, helping the Thorns defeat the Current 2-0 at Providence Park.

At just 20 years old, Moultrie made history as the youngest player to reach 20 league goals, surpassing Sam Kerr’s record from 2016.

Reilyn Turner also contributed to the scoreline for the Thorns (3-1-0), netting a goal in the 63rd minute.

On the contrary, the Current (1-3-0) continue to face challenges, especially without two-time NWSL MVP Temwa Chawinga, sidelined for the entire season due to a hip injury.

Thorns forward Sophia Wilson made her first start of the season in this matchup.

Utah Royals claim their first victory of the season

Tatumn Milazzo returned from a one-game red card suspension to score her second goal of the season, leading the Royals to a win over the struggling Legacy.

Milazzo found the net with a tap-in during the 33rd minute, giving Utah (1-2-1) an early lead. Mina Tanaka earned a penalty in the 49th minute, which Lara Prasnikar converted, extending their lead to 2-0.

Aissata Traoré netted a goal in the 72nd minute, reducing the deficit for Boston (0-3-0).
