In a significant move for the Tennessee Titans, former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll has returned to the role of offensive coordinator under new head coach Robert Saleh.
The Titans confirmed Daboll’s hiring on Tuesday, uniting him with Saleh, who also has past ties to New York as the former head coach of the Jets during Daboll’s tenure with the Giants.
Daboll’s record with the Giants sits at 20-40-1, ending his run after a defeat to the Chicago Bears that left the team at 2-8. Despite his struggles, Daboll did lead New York to a playoff appearance and earned the AP NFL Coach of the Year title in his first season in 2022. However, the latter part of his tenure saw the Giants endure an undesirable 11-33 record.
Prior to his Giant days, Daboll was in discussions for a second round of interviews for the head coaching vacancy just a day before his hiring with Tennessee.
At 50, Daboll boasts a wealth of experience, having served as an offensive coordinator with teams such as the Cleveland Browns (2009-10), Miami Dolphins (2011), Kansas City Chiefs (2012), and Buffalo Bills (2018-21). He also had a notable stint as the offensive coordinator at the University of Alabama in 2017.
His coaching career is accentuated by a remarkable five Super Bowl victories during his time on Bill Belichick’s coaching staff with the New England Patriots from 2000 to 2006 and again from 2013 to 2016. Additionally, he played a key role in Alabama’s national championship win in 2017.
Daboll has the distinguished honor of being the first coach ever to receive both the AP NFL Coach of the Year Award and the AP NFL Assistant Coach of the Year Award, taking home the latter with Buffalo in 2020.
The Titans made headlines recently by signing Robert Saleh to a five-year contract to revitalize a franchise that has faced challenges in the last two seasons, both ending with a troubling 3-14 record. Previously, Saleh was the defensive coordinator for San Francisco and led the Jets through a 20-36 record from 2021 to 2024.
