Broncos TE Evan Engram faced questions regarding his perceived lack of targets, acknowledging that many factors influencing his opportunities were beyond his control.
“A lot of the situation was out of my control,” Engram shared with Luca Evans of The Denver Post. “I can only maximize the chances I am given. There were moments with a good number of opportunities, and there were times where they were limited. There were certainly challenging periods. My goal was always to contribute as much as possible—I wanted to help the team every week—but much of it is just not within my control. I had to shift my focus to what I could control and execute the responsibilities I was assigned.”
Broncos head coach Sean Payton provided an insightful analogy when discussing the current salary cap situation the team is facing.
“Think about it this way, if I were to say I’m giving you $50,000 to decorate your home versus $200,000, the latter would likely produce a better result, assuming you have average shopping skills,” Payton explained, as reported by BroncosWire.com. “The same principle applies in our sport. I am proud of how everyone navigated the challenges and focused on developing young players without using our situation as an excuse. Those excuses could be found easily. It’s essential to evaluate our choices carefully, draft thoughtfully, and make well-planned decisions regarding free agency.”
