Dante Moore Chooses Ducks: Star QB Reveals Plans to Forego 2026 NFL Draft

    Dante Moore

Oregon redshirt sophomore quarterback Dante Moore announced his return to the Ducks for the 2026 season on Wednesday. This decision comes as he opts out of an early-entry opportunity to the NFL, where he was projected as one of the draft’s top prospects.

Moore’s presence strengthens Oregon’s lineup, bringing a sense of anticipation for a third consecutive College Football Playoff appearance under coach Dan Lanning. His last outing was less than ideal, marked by multiple turnovers during a loss against Indiana in the CFP semifinals. However, the opportunity to rectify that performance is now at his fingertips as he leads the Ducks into the new season.

“At the end of the day, I feel like I can still learn so much more,” Moore conveyed during an interview with ESPN. “Since I was four years old, I’ve dreamed about being in the NFL, but this team has been through a lot, and many key players are returning. I feel there are exciting prospects ahead this year, and I’m eager to keep pushing my team.”

According to reports from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, discussions have been underway between Moore and the Ducks concerning his NIL revenue-sharing structure and the necessary insurance policy in case of severe injury during the 2026 season.

Wednesday also marked the deadline for underclassmen who aren’t participating in the CFP title game to declare for the NFL Draft. In the hours leading to his announcement, Moore withheld his plans even from close acquaintances, including Oregon’s coaching staff. Despite being a strong candidate for a top draft pick, he remained uncertain after the loss to Indiana, aiming to consult with Lanning and his family before finalizing his decision.

Moore was ranked as the No. 2 prospect overall and the second quarterback behind Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza in CBS Sports’ NFL Draft Prospect Rankings. He had been projected to join the New York Jets according to CBS Sports’ latest mock draft, following an impressive first full season that included 3,565 yards and 30 touchdowns.

Moore initially made a commitment to Lanning and the Ducks back in July 2022 as the No. 8 overall player in the 2023 recruiting cycle, according to 247Sports. Following a mixed freshman season at UCLA, he transferred to Oregon in December 2023 to serve as Dillon Gabriel’s backup before claiming the starting role for the current fall season. Moore’s leadership helped the Ducks achieve 13 wins, including a standout performance in the CFP against James Madison and Texas Tech.

Oregon’s Quarterback Landscape Solidifies with Dante Moore and Dylan Raiola

With Moore’s future settled, Oregon added a noteworthy commitment from former Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola. Raiola aims to follow in Moore’s footsteps, stepping into a backup role to master the system under new offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer, who was recently elevated from his position as tight ends coach. This setup positions Raiola as a prime candidate for the starting role in 2027.

The Ducks have established a trend of employing transfer quarterbacks under Lanning. Bo Nix, Dillon Gabriel, and Moore have all played key roles in elevating the program to an elite level and consistently positioning it as a national title contender. Raiola’s background suggests he could continue this trend; he previously threw for 2,000 yards, 18 touchdowns, and six interceptions over nine starts with the Huskers before suffering an injury that cut his season short.

Raiola showcased significant progress in his development from his first starting season in 2024, demonstrating improved passer ratings and efficiency. With a stronger offensive front arranged by Oregon, he should have the protection needed to excel after facing constant pressure in his previous stint.

“I know he’s going to push me,” Moore commented. “I know we’re going to compete and have some fun. I’m glad to have him on the team.”
