CINCINNATI (AP) — Quarterback Desmond Ridder, who guided the University of Cincinnati to a College Football Playoff appearance in 2021, signed with the Bengals on Sunday.
Now in his fourth season, Ridder adds another experienced backup to support Joe Burrow. He has participated in 25 games, starting 18 of them during his previous tenures with Atlanta and Las Vegas. Over his career, Ridder has thrown for 4,002 yards, accumulating 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, and has also rushed for five touchdowns.
For the last two seasons, Jake Browning has served as the Bengals’ second-string quarterback, playing in 12 games and starting seven in 2023 following Burrow’s season-ending wrist injury.
To accommodate Ridder, Logan Woodside was released from the roster.
The Bengals also confirmed the signings of defensive tackles McTelvin Agim and Taven Bryan, as well as center Andrew Raym.
These additions to the defensive line are likely aimed at enhancing depth, especially with first-round draft pick Shemar Stewart not reporting with the other rookies and Trey Hendrickson, last season’s NFL sack leader, anticipated to hold out while negotiating a new contract.
Veterans are set to report on Tuesday, with the inaugural practice scheduled for Wednesday.
