Patriots Head Coach Mike Vrabel announced today that first-round left tackle Will Campbell will be placed on injured reserve due to an MCL injury, as reported by Doug Kyed.
In a strategic move, the team will promote cornerback Miles Battle to fill Campbell’s spot on the 53-man roster.
At just 21 years old, Campbell has made a name for himself after a strong college career as a three-year starter at LSU. His performance earned him second-team All-SEC honors in 2022, and he stepped up to first-team status in 2023. The Patriots recognized his talent early, selecting him with the fourth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Campbell’s contract reflects his status, with a four-year deal totaling $43,589,604, which includes a substantial signing bonus of $28,341,527. The agreement also includes a fifth-year option for 2028, showcasing the team’s confidence in his abilities.
Throughout his collegiate journey, Campbell played in 38 games, starting every one as a left tackle. His consistency and skill have been evident in the professional arena as well. In the ongoing 2025 season, Campbell has participated in and started all 12 games for the Patriots, delivering solid performances that have contributed significantly to the team’s offensive line. According to Pro Football Focus, he ranks as the 29th tackle out of 80 qualifying players—an impressive feat for a rookie navigating the complexities of the NFL.
