The Las Vegas Raiders made a strategic move by signing linebacker Segun Olubi on Monday, aiming to enhance their special teams unit.
Olubi joins the Raiders after a solid four-year stint with the Indianapolis Colts, where he primarily contributed on special teams. During his time in Indianapolis, he participated in 51 games, accumulating 50 tackles, forcing two fumbles, recovering two fumbles, blocking two punts, and securing an interception. Notably, he led the Colts with 30 special teams tackles over the past four seasons.
In the previous season, Olubi recorded 11 special teams tackles, a forced fumble, and one blocked punt, while spending minimal time on defense with just six snaps.
Last season was a challenging one for the Raiders regarding their special teams, a struggle that ultimately led to the firing of coordinator Tom McMahon midway through the season. New head coach Klint Kubiak has taken steps to address this area, hiring veteran special teams coach Joe DeCamillis to lead the unit in the upcoming season.
