The Los Angeles Rams have secured DB Alex Johnson with a futures contract as of Tuesday, confirmed by the NFL Transactions wire.
Futures contracts function as training camp invitations, enabling players to showcase their talents during offseason workouts and vying for a place on the final roster.
At 25 years old, Johnson initially joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Giants after an impressive college career at UCLA in May 2024. However, he faced challenges early on, being part of New York’s last roster cuts as a rookie. He managed to return to the Giants’ practice squad.
His journey took a turn in October 2024, when he was released by the Giants and quickly picked up by the Colts’ practice squad. Unfortunately for him, Indianapolis also parted ways with Johnson shortly after the preseason of the current year. The Titans then added him to their practice squad in September. Johnson frequently fluctuated on and off Tennessee’s practice squad before finally signing with Los Angeles’ practice squad in December.
To date, he hasn’t seen playing time in a regular NFL game.
During his time at UCLA, Johnson competed in 55 games, amassing 55 tackles, including one tackle for loss, five interceptions, six pass defenses, one fumble recovery, and even scoring a defensive touchdown.
