UGA Safety Ja’Marley Riddle Facing Felony Drug Charges Following High-Speed Arrest

    Hoist The Colours

Georgia Bulldogs safety Ja’Marley Riddle was arrested last Friday in Glynn County, facing a pair of felony drug charges alongside a misdemeanor traffic violation. Riddle, a high-profile transfer from East Carolina who joined Kirby Smart’s program earlier this year, was booked for possession of more than one ounce of marijuana and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance. Additionally, he was cited for speeding before being released on bond for all three charges.

According to law enforcement records obtained by WGIG 98.7 FM, the incident began on Interstate 95 when an undercover detective observed a red Dodge Durango weaving through traffic at an extreme speed. The reporting officer noted that his own vehicle was traveling at 95 mph, yet the Durango continued to pull away, necessitating a traffic stop. During the encounter, officers noted that Riddle appeared highly nervous and was physically shaking. After detecting the scent of marijuana, police requested to search the SUV.

Riddle consented to the search, which led to the discovery of a backpack in the rear seat. Inside, officers found a heat-sealed bag containing marijuana and several vape cartridges labeled as THC products. This arrest marks a significant setback for the 19-year-old defensive back, who was expected to be a major factor in the Bulldogs’ secondary depth chart following a stellar tenure at East Carolina.

The University of Georgia addressed the situation briefly through a spokesperson, stating that the athletic department is currently gathering more details regarding the ongoing legal matter. Riddle, who earned first-team All-AAC honors in 2025, recorded 130 tackles and six interceptions over two seasons before transferring. He had been working his way back into form during spring practices while recovering from a previous leg injury.

Summary of the Program’s Current Challenges

The arrest of Ja’Marley Riddle is the latest in a long series of off-field distractions that have plagued the Georgia football program since early 2023. While the Bulldogs remain a powerhouse on the field, the recurring nature of these high-speed traffic violations and drug-related incidents continues to draw national scrutiny. For Riddle, the legal process will determine his immediate future with the team, but his absence could create a void in a secondary that was counting on his veteran experience and ball-hawking abilities this season.
