Trevor Lawrence is making a determined push to return to action for the Jaguars, though his situation remains uncertain as he deals with a lingering left shoulder injury.
The starting quarterback has sat out two games due to a sprained AC joint and has practiced earlier this week, aiming to be ready for the matchup against the Texans on Sunday. Nevertheless, the long-term outlook is still unclear.
Lawrence took part in Monday’s practice, and according to head coach Doug Pederson, he was expected to handle most of the first-team reps on Wednesday. This development is promising, yet Lawrence himself acknowledged that the circumstances are still complex.
In discussions with reporters, he mentioned that the prospect of surgery for the injury is “not off the table” and emphasized that recovery will be evaluated on a weekly basis.
“Hopefully I’m able to get back out there this week or as soon as possible, and then it’s going to be just every week kind of evaluating it, seeing where it’s at,” Lawrence said as reported by ESPN’s Michael DiRocco. “Up until this point, I’ve been doing everything I can to avoid [surgery] and want to be back out there with my guys to finish the season. That’s my goal.”
In Lawrence’s absence, backup Mac Jones has stepped in, managing a record of 1-1 before the team’s bye. If Lawrence cannot play, Jones is expected to start again.
The Jaguars face a crucial game against a rising Texans team, and Lawrence’s participation could greatly impact the outcome. Currently, Jacksonville is remaining optimistic yet cautious, trying to balance the urgency for immediate results with the need for long-term health.
